Cox's Bazar is a sightseer city located in the south- eastern part of Bangladesh. It belongs to Cox's Bazar District of Chittagong Division. Cox's Bazar is notorious for its scenic beauty. It has the longest nonstop natural flaxen sand in the world which is 120 km nonstop from Cox's Bazar megacity to Badarmokam.
It has Bangladesh's largest marine fishing harborage and submarine string wharfstation.Cox's Bazar is located 152 km south of Chittagong megacity. Its distance from Dhaka is 414 km. It's the biggest sightseer center of Bangladesh. Cox's Bazar can be reached by road and machine from Dhaka, the capital of the country. The design of laying road from Chittagong to Cox's Bazar has been accepted.
Modern Cox's Bazar is named afterL. Cox(d. 1798) who was a military officer in India during the British period. It was formerly also known as Cox's Bazar Panoa which literally means unheroic flower. Another ancient name ispalangki.From the early 9th century until the Mughal subjection in 1616, a large part of Chittagong, including Cox's Bazar, was part of the ArakanKingdom.The Mughal emperor Shah Shuja, on his way to Arakan along the hilly road, was impressed by the natural beauty of Cox's Bazar and ordered a camp to be set up then. About one thousand palanquins of his procession stayed at a place named Dulahazara in Chakriar, Cox's Bazar. Dulhajara means thousand palanquins. After the Mughals Tripura and Arkan followed by the Portuguese and the British took control of thearea.The name Cox's Bazar is deduced from the name of an officer of the British East India Company named Captain Hiram Cox.
The earlier name of Cox's Bazar was Palangki. After the promulgation of the British East India Company Ordinance, 1773, Warrant Hosting was appointed as the Governor of Bengal. Hiram Cox was also appointed General Manager of Palangki. Captain Cox attempts to resolve the thousand- time-old conflict between Arakan deportees and original Rakhines and made important progress in the resettlement of the deportees but failed( 1799) before the work was completely completed.
